Final Project (30%) Individual Presentation

Please make sure that you have completed your group PowerPoint on Outsourced the movie.

This week please start preparing the PowerPoint for your final Cultural Diversity presentation.

The details are on this blog.

It must be done individually. It is worth 30% of you course marks.

Assignments for the week beginning April 28th April

This is for all of my Cultural Diversity classes.

Cross-Cultural Communication

In the same groups in which you made your Cultural diversity film, please do this project and put a hardcopy in the box on my desk and also upload to your blog.

1.      Study the Cross-Cultural Communication PowerPoint on the blog (you have also been given a hard-copy)

2.      Read the Outsourced study guide and questions

3.      Watch and enjoy the comedy movie “Outsourced”

 

        and answer the questions

(There is a hotel scene in the movie which is culturally inappropriate, so of course I always fast forward it when I play it in class – please do the same.)

4.      Prepare a PowerPoint presentation about Outsourced and give many examples of the cross-cultural communication problems in the movie. Make sure that you are able to talk about the following Cultural Dimensions. Help! There are explanations and examples after the questions!

For your Final Project, you have to do a Presentation on your own, demonstrating your own understanding of Cultural Diversity, and how it relates to your life, your community and your country. Please do not just repeat the contents of your ‘isms’ project!

 

In your Presentation, please include the following:

 

1)    Demonstrate your understanding of the key concepts, such as these below, and any others you have learnt:

 

diversity	multiculturalism
acculturation	stereotyping
discrimination	tolerance
human rights	values
respect	global economy
migration	culture-clash

 

2)    Relate what you have learnt to your own life experience. Give personal examples. Mention the challenges and the benefits.

 

3)    Explore ways in which Cultural Diversity relates to your own community, and can benefit your country.

 

Methods and Techniques

 

Use a variety of techniques in your Presentation, such as:

 

·         Power Point slides

·         Pictures and  illustrations

·         Video from You Tube (maximum 2 minutes long)

·         I-movie made by yourself

·         Interviews recorded on your ipad

·         Spoken examples from your life experience

 

Length

 

To make sure you have covered everything, you will need to speak and present for about 15 minutes, including Teacher’s Question Time at the end.

Your individual date and time will be given to you by your teacher. If you are ready before the deadline, please tell your teacher.
